Cognitive Behavior Therapy and It¢¥s Application with The Adolescent Mental Disorders



Abstract
Cognitive behavior therapy is traditionally seen as a treatment for emotional disorders in adults. The paper argues that the technique can also be used with emotionally disturbed adolescents and younger children provided there is an awareness of cognitive and moral developmental processes and that these are taken into consideration.
This paper discusses some of the advantages and excitement of using technique with adolescents. The cognitive approach involves active participation by the therapist in asking questions to the agenda, identifying the target problems, gathering data, summarizing the problem, getting feedback, setting homework and promoting alternative responses.
In order to understand the application of CBT, there is a need to look in more detail at the strategies as monitoring of automatic thoughts, generation of alternative ideas, recognition the connection between automatic thoughts, affect, and behavior, and modifying base schemea and cognitive errors.
CBT in adolescents can be seen as a useful form of psychotherapy utilizing the natural development of cognitive skills in adolescent. As with all psychotherapies, it has it¢¥s shortcomings and drawbacks, but for many young people it is helpful. In assessing who take on for CBT it is very important to ensure that the ability to consider alternative hypotheses well developed, as it is the existential question on the arbitrariness of the nature of reality that forms the basis of cognitive psychotherapy.
